Bellcore researcher Joseph Lechleider originates broadband technologies in the late 1980s. He demonstrates the feasibility of sending broadband signals via telephone lines, which starts the movement from analog to digital. This research effort eventually spawns new transmission technologies such as Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).
